Dear Birth Parent:
As we sit here writing this letter, we can not imagine what you are going through trying to make this difficult decision and the turmoil you must be feeling; but what we can imagine is what a courageous and thoughtful person you must be to decide that adoption is the best choice for your child and yourself. We will share with your child the love you felt for him or her and the sacrifice you made on their behalf. They will know they were adopted and it was a decision made completely out of love. If you wish, we are open to send you updates on your child as it grows and prospers in our home.
About Us…
We were high-school sweethearts and got married only a few years after high school and have been married for several years. We knew it was meant to be from the beginning and can honestly say that we are each other's best friend.
We live in a great neighborhood where we built our home in 2006 near David's grandfather who lives at the end of our street. We have a large yard that our child could spend tons of hours playing in safely. Our home has 3 bedrooms in which we have already chosen the room that will become the nursery when our child comes home with us and we spend a lot of time talking about how we will decorate this room. Our home also has a very large den that we love to spend time together watching television or talking and we picture this room full of toys for our child to play with. There is also a dining room where family holiday dinners are spent with both of our families. We immensely enjoy cooking the large meals for everyone and having them over to our house.
Both our parents and grandparents live very close along with Christie's brother, his wife and son. Christie also has an older brother who lives with his wife, son and daughter in St. Louis, Missouri. St. Louis is a great place to visit on family vacations as we've done in the past. We know that our families will be a big part of our child's life. They are all so excited to meet the newest member of the family and highly support our decision to adopt. We know that our child will be extremely loved and well cared for.
We like to spend time together and are sure there will be activities and sports that our child will want to participate in and we plan on being very involved with them. We enjoy camping in our 24 foot pull behind camper in which we take long weekends to enjoy the outdoors and the quiet time together. We don't camp as much as we would like, but we hope to have more camping trips once we have a child in our lives. We enjoy dinners with family and friends at our home and in restaurants. We have many friends whom we spend time with who have small children who call us Uncle Dave and Aunt Christie.
We have struggled with infertility for many years now and the heartache that came with each disappointment. We didn't try for children immediately; we both felt we had a lot of growing to do before we got to that aspect of our lives. When we did start trying, we were surprised it was taking so long but just waited to see what would happen. We knew when the time was right we would have a child of our own. After it didn't happen for many years, we got a little more serious and enlisted the help of several doctors. We have gone through numerous procedures along with painful and expensive tests with no baby. We want a child so much that it hurts mentally and physically. As we look back at the road we have traveled to get where we are now, the signs were there all along that adoption was the step we needed to take. It just took a lot of pain and heartache to get to this decision but it feels right now and we are so excited and can't wait to meet the newest member of our family.
About Christie…
I received an Associate's Degree from Marshall University after high school and before we were married and worked for several years until I went back to school at the age of26 and got a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting while working a full-time job. Also after lots of study time and effort, I have now passed my exam and am a Certified Public Accountant. I worked in public accounting for almost 6 years where I was head of the tax department and enjoyed my job immensely. I still do taxes on the side; but now work in a local hospital in the Accounting/Finance Department with normal working hours.
My hobbies include reading, knitting and camping. I enjoy reading different types of books such as mysteries and romance to name a few and I look forward to reading bedtime stories to my child. I try to knit whenever I can because it is very relaxing and wonderful to see something you have created from scratch. My biggest project right now is working on a baby blanket for the child that will become ours.
I love animals of all types. I grew up on a small farm where we had horses, cows, rabbits, chickens, cats and dogs. I take small trips to the Kentucky Horse Park and Zoos within driving distance during the summer. I can't wait to share my love of animals with my child.
About David…
I was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. The Scout Masters, Troop Leaders and Instructors were a very big influence in my early and late teen years. They all contributed to helping me achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. I believe that this has influenced my desire to help people and why I joined the local volunteer fire department at the age of 18 where my parents were also very active members with the fire and EMS. At 19, I received my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and worked actively with this for 5 years. In 1995, I was elected as Sergeant which included taking care of the maintenance on the station building and supplies. In 2003, I was voted fire fighter of the year. In 2004, I was elected as fire lieutenant which included maintenance and upkeep on one of the fire apparatus, teaching classes, and fire ground operations. In 2007, I was voted in as Captain which duties included overseeing that the maintenance and upkeep was done on all fire apparatus, issuing of equipment and gear, and fire ground supervision. In 2009, I was voted in as Deputy Chief which duties include the day to day operation of the department including paying bills, submission of fire reports and taking over in case of inability of the Chief to fulfill his duties. I pride myself on mentoring the younger members of the department over these years.
Growing up, I learned a lot from my parents about running a business and now have a successful business of my own in which my father helps and my grandfather drops by several times each day. I started a signs and graphics company in 1996 out of a small spare bedroom in our home while working full-time at a local police department. I continued building the business and worked at the police department until 2000 when I took my sign business full-time and have continued to build this business to this day. It is very fulfilling and rewarding to have a successful business that I built from the ground up.
Final Words…
We hope that our letter has helped you get to know us a little better. We hope to ease your mind and heart as you are reading our letter, to know that you are choosing the right family to parent your child. Again, we know that this decision has not been an easy one but, from the bottom of our hearts we thank you.
We all have different journeys that we have to take and no one person can understand exactly what each of us is going through. We hope to make this choice easier for you by choosing us and knowing that we will take care of your child as we would had they been born to us.
Sincerely,
Christie and David
